I visited a monastery once during a trip to Henan Province, and its rare combination of ruggedness and royalty took my breath away. I couldn’t get the contrast out of my head! As I wandered out to find something to eat, I saw a ceramic stool that paired the same regal shape with a rugged execution, and I had to bring it back with me as the Jasmine Stool.
Drum-shaped with the intricate cutouts of a traditional Asian masterpiece, it comes in an array of muted, jewel tones (plus gleaming white). Use them as end tables, ottomans, or seating that can move where it’s needed–they’re handy and handsome for accommodating a crowd.
