For those of us who know of parquet flooring from our parents rec rooms or law offices, it may be a surprise to learn that the geometric wood flooring originated from the Palace at Versailles, of all places.
It required artisans to cut and fit each sliver of wood by hand, but these days, advances in manufacturing techniques have made the process easier and, therefore, the classic wood design is accessible to all of us. Take our Parquet Cocktail Table:
Its top is made of reclaimed elm laid in a diagonal parquet pattern, and its base is traditional black iron.
