This water vessel is one that would have been common in most Chinese households during the 1900s. Used for storing water and for other soups, and sometimes pickled preparations, every household had at least a few – the earthenware kept the water or food cool even in high temperatures.
Probably reclaimed from a home in central China, this vessel is really a water-saving and/or carrying jug, and dates back to the mid-1900s, evidenced by its muted painted finish. The weathered look ensures you won’t see another one quite like it! Each piece is unique, with its own markings and coloration. Imported.
